Jack Jouett
Jack Jouett 2
Paul Revere's ride was admirable, but this one had a more profound impact on what came later. The site of the tavern mentioned in these artilces is only 5 or so miles from my house. The tavern itself no longer exists. There is indeed a private residence on the grounds and the house is called Cuckoo.
I first heard of Jack some twenty years ago when the county had a celebration on the grounds of Cuckoo to honor Jack Jouett on the 200th anniversary of his ride. Revere just had better PR.

Back in the summer of 2000 I recieved an email from a internet fan group. The email said
this. In the end, 13000 people worldwide financed an album. The result was Anoraknophobia. I've been asked what the title means. Below is the explanation. Enjoy.
Anoraknophobia - the name
The first question you may well have is the title of the album itself. It's not arachnophobia, the fear of spiders. Rather, it's a compounding of the phrase "anorak no phobia," or, not afraid of anoraks.
What's an anorak? An anorak is a raincoat.
Ok, that clears it up. The band isn't afraid of raincoats. Anorak raincoats are traditionally worn by trainspotters.
Wasn't there a movie call... Trainspotters are people who watch and keep records of trains in England. The phrase "Anorak" is an expanded form of "trainspotter" which describes anyone who is obsessed with detail.
So the Anorak in the title would be? Marillion fans are notorious anoraks. To the point of embarrassing Trainspotters. The title was chosen to honor the fans for funding the album's creation

From ET to degree
33 years late
In his career, Steven Spielberg has given us many great films: Jaws, Close Encounters, ET, Schindler's List, Indiana Jones. Yet he never finished his college education. That is no longer the case, this year Spielberg will be awarded his degree in film and electronic arts. Although he didn't physically attend classes to earn this degree, I can just see a professor examining the evolution of modern film with a clip of Jaws or ET or Schindler's with Spielberg present as a student.

The single best thing you can do to improve your pizza is to get it with less cheese.
These people must be stopped now. They're going after pizza and that just can't be allowed. C'mon, who out there has subsisted on cold pizza to get through exams? They say reduce the amount of cheese on the pizza, what's up with that? Take the cheese out of pizza and all you got is flat bread.
The only way the Center for Science in the Public Interest will be satisfied is when the whole country is vegan. Now if you choose to be vegan by choice, I applaud you and more power to you. However, I will not be forced into that lifestyle. I want a large pizza with all the toppings, screw the calories, screw the fat. Don't tell me what I can and can't eat.

What is wrong with parents these days?
Wait, before I really go off, let me say that I don't have kids and that is a prospect that won't be happening for a while. (Gotta find Ms. Right first.)
OK on to the rant.
As I posted earlier, I saw Star Wars twice today. The first time was in the morning and most of the audience were people like me, long time fans. The second showing had a more diverse audience. Specifically in ages. Directly in front of me was a father and his son, behind me was another father and son and on the same row was a mother and son (age of son maybe 3 years old). Father and son in front of me watched the movie like normal people, son was quiet and to be honest the only reminder that he was there was that he leaned back in his chark and hit my leg. The child on the same row was rather well behaved for one so young, although he did begin to get fusy toward the end (it is a 2 1/4 hour long movie). The problem arose from the child behind me. This kid would not shut up. He talked and talked and talked. First scene, ships heading toward the planet. Kid: "Why are they going to the planet?" The father kept telling the boy to be quiet, that lasted for maybe two minutes. (Now I should say that this kid was about 8 or so years old, so one would assume that he would know that you're supposed to be quiet in a theater.) This kept on through the entire film, it was good thing I had already seen it once. This kid just didn't have respect for the other members of the audience.
And I've seen this lack of respect elsewhere as well. When I was working in the bookstore, I would see parents come in and turn their children loose on the Children's section and leave. I know of one parent who thought the staff were the personal babysitters for his children while he shopped. These parents are not teaching their children to have respect for themselves and others. What kind of future are we creating for ourselves. What gets me is the parents say that the children are just being children and don't discipline. By discipline, I mean explaining and reinforcing the difference between right and wrong. That's what Mom and Dad did for my brothers and me. And I know my brother passed along many of the same traits to his children.
I know there are some out there who will disagree with this, and that's fine. Get your own spot and ramble away yourself. However, I grew up to know the difference between what is right and wrong, and have the ability to determine such. My parents weren't mean, they took the time to explain the "why's" and "why not's." Now looking back, I think they did a damn good job.

Didn't make it to a midnight showing of Star Wars, but saw it twice today. Forget about the reviews, see it for yourself. Obi-Wan kicks butt and Yoda rocks the house.

Revenge is dish best served cold. And its very cold in space. The best is coming this fall. I know my friend Jeremy is gonna flame me for being a Star Trek geek, but Khan is getting the delux treatment for an August release. Looks like Paramount is doing to Khan what it did to Star Trek:TMP last year. If so then it should look great. I mean this is arguably the best Trek film and getting the special DVD treatment should make it that much better. But then you've got to love a film where gian slugs crawl into people's ears and take over their minds.

So, its begun. The website, Rotten Tomatoes, has reviews of Attack of the Clones. Overall, the reviews seem positive, 60% in favor. Of course, there are some dissenters. But what about the agnostic viewer? The hopeful ticket buyer walking in not as a cultist, but as a moviegoer hoping for a great experience? Is this "Star Wars" critic-proof and scoff-resistant?

Whatever happened to children just having a good time? Way back in the deep dark recesses of my mind, I remember being stabbed in the chest with a pencil in high school. Of course, I provoked it by erasing the periodical chart of elements from this guys crappy little TRS portable computer (an overglorified calculator). At the time, no one called the cops, its wasn't an issue. Reading this article brought the memory back, but we were kids, there was no malice involved. Its amazing how 14 to 15 years changes attitudes.
